Introduction to Physics

The word Science is derived from Latin word “Scientia” meaning Knowledge. So the knowledge gained through observations and experimentations is called Science. In 19th century, Science was divided into two types; Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences. Physical sciences deals with the study of non-living things and Biological Sciences deals with the study of living things. So, Physics is the branch of Physical Sciences.
Physics: “The study of matter and energy and the relationship between them is called Physics.”
The study of Physics involves investigating things such as laws of motion, the structure of space and time, the nature of type of forces that hold different materials together, the interaction between different particles etc.
Physics is most fundamental of all sciences and provides other branches of science, basic principles and fundamental laws. The overlapping of physics and other fields gave birth to new branches such as physical chemistry, biophysics, astrophysics, health physics etc. Physics also plays an important role in the development of technology and engineering.
